    This website provides information for students about their career plans. I really like the page that outlines for them how the choices they make now can help them in the future. I want to use this in my online course because I think it is important for students to see the correlation between what they are doing now and how it will help them in the future. I think I am going to add this into Module 4 to assist with the career plan. I also want to use the Structured Reflection link as an intro to the course. I think it outlines reflections and states a clear purpose to the students, who may have not done a blogging activity before.

    This site, which appears on OER Commons and originated with the National Council of Teachers of English/ReadWriteThink site, is a series of lessons aimed at high school lessons which use The Cat in the Hat to learn and practice psychoanalytical literary criticism. This will be one of the major elements of Module 4 in my "Politics of Dr. Seuss" course. I will be drawing from several portions of this activity, which reviews theme, plot, indirect characterization, and then applies Freudian concepts of id, ego and superego to analyze various characters in The Cat in the Hat.

    In Module 3 of my class on "The Politics of Dr. Seuss," we will be exploring the political cartoons that Dr. Seuss and others produced during World War 2. These cartoons mostly appeared in PM, a New York newspaper, from 1941 to 1943. I discovered these cartoons in a book called Dr. Seuss & Co. Go to War, and I had planned to scan and upload cartoons from the book. But I searched in MERLOT and was so pleased to find a treasure trove of hundreds of cartoons! I can draw on these for my Powerpoint presentation to the class and direct students to this website to find even more.

      I hadn't thought about a group project for my course; however, after reading about these students writing and publishing a short story, it got me thinking. I was originally going to have my students do a final paper comparing two stories. Then I decided I wanted to do something different and a bit more collaborative. After seeing this website, I started to think about a group project more seriously. Then I thought I'd like it to be a little more hand-on like this course, and so it has morphed into a final group project where they can decided to either write a short story or create a multi-media presentation of a short story we've read. This website got me thinking about the project from the students' perspective. Giving them the choice to write or use multi-media is a better idea and will get the creative juices flowing. It also puts them more in control of what they want to do creatively.

In none of these examples will the demand be as elastic as the demand for gasoline at a particular gas station on a street with many gas stations. Drivers will flock to a gas station with a price a few pennies below its neighbors' prices, and will abandon a gas stations with a price a few pennies higher. Choose "Elastic demand" if you think that buyers will buy somewhat less if the price goes up, or somewhat more if the price goes down. Choose "Inelastic demand" if you think that the buyers will buy about the same amount if the price goes up or down. An unconscious bleeding man is brought to a hospital emergency room. A patient is given a presciption for a drug to control high blood pressure. The patient's insurance doesn't cover drugs, so the patient must pay out of pocket. A hospital in-patient has insurance that will pay all charges. What would the demand be like for nurse-administered propoxyphene (Darvon), a pain-reliever? A senior signs up with a managed care plan to get the Medicare drug benefit. Even though the senior is locked in for a year, the plan can, at any time, change which drugs it will pay for, based on the plan's judgement about a drug's effectiveness and price relative to other drugs that do about the same thing. For members of that plan, what might the demand for the Darvon be like? Darvon's cheapest alternative might be acetomenophen (Tylenol) in this case. A family has a high-deductible health insurance policy. The effect is that the family pays for primary care office visits out of pocket. Now, one of their children has an earache. What would their demand be like for an office visit to get this checked out?       I love that this activity will give students freedom and choice to add anything they want. We all know that giving students choice leads to them being for satisfied :-)

    As I looked at countless resources for self esteem building activities, I realized that I was lacking a truly collaborative activity in my course. I thought that digital story telling would be a fun, stress-free way for the girls to work together and connect with each other.
